A Boy with Big Dreams
Namaste doston! Welcome to my Merchant Navy blogging website. Today, I’m sharing the masala-filled success story of Manish Kumar, a 48-year-old Captain who started with nothing but a spark in his heart. Born in a middle-class family in Haryana, Manish ka life was full of twists—like a Bollywood movie! Ghar mein paisa tight tha, aur job ki talaash mein dhakke khane pade. But today, he’s a big name in the Merchant Navy, commanding ships across the world. Yeh hai ek dilchasp kahani, from a small village to ruling the seas as a Captain!
After 12th: Job Hunt Struggles
Manish Kumar finished his 12th in 1994. Science mein accha tha, but middle-class life ka pressure tha—no money for big colleges, no “uncle” to get him a job. “Kuch bada karna hai,” he kept thinking. After 12th, he started looking for work. Kabhi clerk ki naukri ke liye line laga, kabhi factory mein mazdoori ki. Par dil se woh khush nahi tha. “Yeh meri zindagi nahi,” he told himself. Parents bolte the, “Beta, settle ho ja,” but Manish wanted more—ek alag rasta.
He heard about the Merchant Navy from a cousin who worked on ships. “Samundar mein kaam kar, paisa kama, dunia dekh,” his cousin said. Manish’s eyes lit up. Ship? Sea? Yeh toh filmy lagta hai! Captain banne ka khayal aaya—standing tall, steering a ship. But the problem was—kaise shuru karu? No money, no idea, just a 12th pass certificate. Still, he decided, “Chalo, risk lete hain!”
Knocking on Every Door
Manish didn’t sit idle. He went to Delhi, Mumbai—anywhere he heard Merchant Navy ka chance mil sakta hai. Paisa nahi tha, toh train ke general dabbe mein safar kiya, dost ke ghar pe ruka. He’d stand in lines at shipping offices, begging for a chance. “Sir, mujhe bas ek mauka do,” he’d say. Log haste the, “12th pass se Captain kaise banega?” But Manish ka junoon kam nahi hua.
One day, in 1997, luck smiled. A small shipping company in Mumbai gave him a chance as a trainee deckhand. Salary? Bas thodi si—500 rupees a month! But Manish jumped in. “Yeh meri ticket hai,” he thought. First day on the ship, he was lost—ropes, maps, bada samundar! He didn’t even know how to swim! Par dil mein aag thi—he learned fast, worked hard, and soon moved to the deck crew, dreaming of the Captain’s hat.
Rising to Captain
Manish ka safar asaan nahi tha. Ship pe 12-12 ghante kaam, garmi, thakan, aur ghar ki yaad. Festivals miss kiye, mummy ke haath ka khana nahi mila. But every month, he sent money home—1000, then 5000, then more. Family shocked thi, “Yeh ladka toh kamaal kar raha hai!” From deckhand, he became a third officer, then second officer. Har saal seekhta gaya—navigation, ship handling, weather charts—sab kuch.
After 15 years of mehnat, in 2012, he became Captain. Ab woh pura ship ka boss hai! At 48, Manish has sailed to Dubai, London, Japan—places he couldn’t even spell after 12th. “Mitti ka ladka samundar ka raja ban gaya,” he laughs. His family? Ab ghar pakka hai, bacche college mein padh rahe hain—all because Manish didn’t stop dreaming of the Captain’s cabin.
Manish’s Bollywood-Style Message
When I asked Manish for advice, he said, “Bhai, zindagi ek film hai—haar mat maan, apna climax khud likh! 12th ke baad job nahi mili toh kya? Rasta dhoondh, aur Captain ban ja!” At 48, he’s still rocking the Merchant Navy, full of energy and stories. His life is proof—middle-class ho ya zero se shuru, agar himmat hai, toh ship ka Captain ban sakte ho!
