“Zindagi mein mauke chhupay hote hain, bas dekhne wali nazar honi chahiye!” – This is the story of Suresh, a hardworking young man from Kerala who turned his passion for electrical work into a successful career in the Merchant Navy.
A Childhood Spark – Inspired by His Father
Born and raised in a simple family in Kerala, Suresh’s father worked in the electrical department of a government office. As a child, Suresh often watched his father fix wiring, repair circuits, and talk about how electricity powered the world. His curiosity turned into passion, and he knew early on that he wanted to make a career in the electrical field.
The First Steps – Engineering and Small Jobs
Following his dream, Suresh completed his Electrical Engineering degree from a reputed college in Tamil Nadu. However, after graduation, reality hit him hard. He struggled to find a well-paying job and ended up working in small electrical maintenance jobs in factories and buildings. The salary was low, and growth opportunities were limited.
“Yeh kaam toh theek hai, par yeh zindagi nahi jo sochi thi,” he often thought. He wanted something bigger, something more adventurous.
The Turning Point – A Lucky Advertisement
One day, while browsing a newspaper, he came across an advertisement for the Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) course at the Great Eastern Institute of Maritime Studies. It promised a career at sea, high salaries, and international exposure. This was the opportunity he had been waiting for!
Without wasting time, Suresh applied, cleared the entrance process, and enrolled in the ETO course. The training was tough, but his past experience in electrical work gave him confidence.
First Ship – New Challenges, New Life
After completing his training, he got his first job as a Trainee ETO on a cargo ship. The transition from land to sea wasn’t easy—new technology, long working hours, and adjusting to life onboard took time. But he loved the challenge.
“Samundar ki lehron se darr nahi, inko jeetna seekho,” he told himself.
As months passed, he mastered ship electrical systems, from high-voltage machinery to automation controls. His dedication impressed his seniors, and soon he was promoted to Electrical Officer.
Today – A Successful Electrical Officer at Sea
Now, Suresh is a respected Electrical Officer working with a reputed shipping company. He maintains and troubleshoots complex ship electrical systems, ensuring smooth operations. His journey from a small-town electrician to a marine electrical expert is nothing short of inspiring.
