  • Qualification: B.Sc. Nautical Science / Diploma in Nautical Science
  • Skills Needed: Leadership, Navigation, Safety Management

Engine Department

Ensures the ship’s engine and machinery function smoothly.
Ranks & Growth:

  • Engine Cadet → Fourth Engineer → Third Engineer → Second Engineer → Chief Engineer
  • Qualification: B.Tech. Marine Engineering / Diploma in Marine Engineering
  • Skills Needed: Mechanical Knowledge, Problem-Solving, Maintenance

Electro-Technical Officer (ETO)

Manages electrical and electronic systems onboard.

  • Qualification: Diploma/Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering 
  • Skills Needed: Electrical Maintenance, Automation, Troubleshooting

Ratings (Crew Members)

Assist officers and engineers in daily ship operations.

  • Types: Bosun, Able Seaman, Motorman, Cook, Steward
  • Qualification: Basic STCW Courses, Pre-Sea Training

Eligibility & Entry Routes

  • 10th Pass: GP Rating Course (for crew jobs)
  • 12th Science (PCM): Nautical Science, Marine Engineering (for officers)
  • Diploma/Bachelor’s in Engineering: Direct entry into ETO or Engine Dept.

Medical & Physical Requirements

  • Good eyesight (6/6 vision)
  • No color blindness
  • Physically fit as per DG Shipping medical standards
