How I Got Admission in Marine Engineering After Not Qualifying for IIT, AIEEE, and UPTU

Hello, friends! Welcome to The Sailor Log. Today, I want to share my journey of how I became a marine engineer after failing to qualify for IIT, AIEEE, and UPTU in 2010. If you are also struggling with career choices, I hope my story gives you some motivation.

The Year of Struggles – 2010

Like many Indian students, I dreamt of cracking IIT and getting into a top engineering college. I prepared for IIT-JEE, AIEEE, and UPTU with full dedication. But when the results came, I didn’t qualify in any of them. I felt lost. All my friends were getting into colleges, and I had no idea what to do next.

A Friend Who Changed My Life

During this difficult time, one of my friends came to me with a new idea. He told me about Marine Engineering. I had never thought about it before, but the more I researched, the more I got interested. Marine Engineering is different from regular engineering. It offers adventure, a great salary, and a chance to travel the world.

Taking Admission in Marine Engineering

I started looking for colleges that offered Marine Engineering. After some research, I found that many institutes provided admission through direct entry, as long as you met the eligibility criteria. The main requirements were:

  • Passing 12th with PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Maths)
  • Meeting the medical fitness standards for the Merchant Navy

I applied, cleared the entrance tests and medical exam, and finally got admission to a Marine Engineering college.

A New Beginning

My journey in Marine Engineering was not easy, but it was exciting. From learning about ship engines to experiencing life at sea, everything was new and challenging. But today, when I look back, I am glad that I chose this career.

Final Words

If you didn’t get into IIT, NIT, or any top engineering college, don’t lose hope. There are many other career options, and the Merchant Navy is one of them. If you love adventure, travel, and technical work, this could be the perfect path for you.
