Deep Dive into The Past
Picture a team of divers, gear on — Mediterranean Sea deep blue. It is in the process of exploring the ocean bottom near Turkey, when all of sudden—they find an odd object buried beneath the layers of sand.
It’s not just any object.
A sealed clay jar, unbroken for over 1,100 years!
Hear the heart start pounding. It is not only a find, the lens to past.

The Slumbering Wreck – Ship Yawn
Wonderful mystery jar discovered on the beaches of old sunken merchant ship some 45-50 meters deep.
The ship, maybe even of the 9th or 10th century carrying goods and treasure across the Mediterranean.
Sailing in those days was no walk in the park. Hurricanes, waves and harsh weather eventually put an end to many a ship. The ship never got back. … The ship sank and buried a millennium-old veil of secrecy.

Amphora: A Time Capsule That Escaped Detection
The small remains scattered like confetti, the only thing standing alone was one sealed amphora (storage jar).
Waterlogged treasure (as all the other jars found underwater are broken) Conventional wisdom held that Ancient pots found in the deep are invariably shattered or sodden. But this one? The seal intact. Whole. A sign of preservation!
What were in this jar seeped before not even of the first castles in Europe, built?
Gaza Port olive oil?
Turkey wine?
A sacred offering?
Or even weirder?

From Sea Floor to Science Lab
Underwater robots were operated by the divers to carefully lift the jar from it without breaking it. Extracted it to a laboratory, they did a detailed investigation of this.
I mean it was a bitch to open. Jar had to stay wet by any chance of cracking. But scientists utilized, microscopes peoples, tiny chisels and hammers to slowly chip open the seal.
Well the jar had been opened after more than 1100 years.
The team counted their breaths and waited for that first breath of liberty to 1000 years.

What’s Inside? Enter Mysteriosity
And with that, the real suspense comes.
The jar is still a mystery inside. Scientists are using:
- Texture analysis
- Scent examination
- Chemical testing
In order to determine what goods they contained
First guesses suggest wine, olive pits or fish sauce; maybe a secret ingredient.
When you get a message from the past, but in either liquid or solid.

A gift for pilgrims, or for royals?
And the ship may have originally hailed from Gaza, whose oil would be bringing its crops to sea. The being this cargo was for pilgrims or pilgrim places where people, local people anyway did not usually drink wine.
‘This ship wasn’t a merchant vessel- it was promoting society; mail carrier for travelers or spiritual travellers and royalty.
But a devastating storm put it all to rest. The ship sank, and never did the ship deliver this outlier gift.
Until now.
The Importance Of This Jar
This not all about what comes within.
It’s about:
- Determining past trade routes
- Finding out what people ate
- Figuring history and how nations are united
- And faith travel economy was married together
Shrouded beneath the floor of this jar could be the reality of what it was like to live in an ancient society — how they worshipped and celebrated.

Science Takes Over
Now they are doing a battery of science tests. As the jar had been in the sea for over a thousand years, the elements the contents have gone through from:
- Temperature changes
- Sea pressure
- Salt exposure
The scientists have to be 100% certain before they release any data.
They are comparing with the historical archives and under clocking every flat.
Months might pass (but it is ok) waiting for the testing.

- A treasure!
- A relic
- A piece that will change everything We can only wait and see
